When working in my studio, I often think about how much I love what I do and how lucky I am that I can do what I love. Woodworking has been a lifelong passion of mine. It all started in my grandfather’s workshop where I would smooth wood for hours. For a 5-year-old, that meant filing a piece of scrap into a pile of sawdust. You could say that woodworking is in my blood. My great-grandfather was a German woodworker that immigrated to the United States
late in the 19th century. I am amazed at the artistry of his work, using the tools of his day. It is truly inspiring and has led me down the path that I am on today. I hope he would be pleased with the pieces his great-grandson creates, combining old world techniques with new world ideas.
Turning a passion into a profession is extremely satisfying. I have been building commissioned pieces for nearly 25 years. In 2007, I decided it was time to officially open my own studio and Dark Horse Woodworks came into being. The studio is located in The Metropolitan Business and Arts District, a historic warehouse complex transformed into a thriving center for art studios, galleries and workshops.
I value working for clients that appreciate the distinction of owning custom-designed pieces. As my woodworking skills have developed over the years, I have found that the design process is as satisfying as the building process. I enjoy meeting and getting to know each of my clients, finding out what they feel is important and incorporating their sense of style into a unique piece
. I pride myself that I am not limited to any particular genre, and that my skills allow me to enjoy working with different styles and periods.
A custom design is a collaboration between you and me. I would be excited to talk with you about your project and how we could work together. Use any of the methods listed on the Contact page to begin the process.
